Organizational Readiness
Foliage consulting engagements will sometimes include some level of assessment of the capabilities of our client's development organizations. While there is opportunity to improve in all organizations, we are typically looking for serious gaps. Certain essential capabilities are sometimes missing.
A typical organizational readiness assessment will include:
- Assessment of individual skill sets - architecture, design, coding, testing, project management, technology skills & experience, average experience
- Organizational skills - staff management, project staffing approach, organization skill mix, critical skill deficiencies, training and mentoring approaches, recruiting practices
- Cultural aspects that impact software success - "put in the hours" versus dedication to success of the project, unrealistic schedules, "get it out the door" versus disciplined quality process, etc.
- Software processes for development, maintenance, and testing
- Track record - defect rates, productivity, schedule & budget performance, and comparison to industry benchmarks for organizational performance
